Why choose RD-Biotech for your recombinant proteins?
Expertise in difficult and toxic proteins
RD-Biotech excels in the production of recombinant proteins considered particularly challenging, including membrane proteins, GPCRs, cytokines, and toxic or unstable enzymes.
Through our command of all major expression systems (E. coli, CHO, HEK293, yeast, and cell-free) we systematically identify the best strategy for obtaining a soluble, functional, and biologically active recombinant protein.
We have successfully completed numerous projects in which other platforms had failed, particularly involving therapeutic recombinant proteins and antigens used in recombinant protein vaccines.
Our multi-system approach and extensive optimization expertise make the difference in the most demanding projects.
Flexibility and customization
Every recombinant protein production project is unique. At RD-Biotech, we do not apply a standardized process. Instead, we design a customized solution based on your sequence, final application—research, diagnostics, or therapeutic development—and time or budget constraints.
Whether you require simple transient expression in HEK cells, scale-up in CHO cells, cell-free production, or extensive optimization of recombinant protein cloning and expression, our team adapts every stage to your needs.
This flexibility enables you to obtain exactly the recombinant protein you require, without compromise.
Rapid small- and medium-scale production
In research environments where speed is critical, RD-Biotech offers recombinant protein production in batches ranging from a few milligrams to several hundred milligrams, with some of the shortest lead times on the market: only a few weeks from cloning to purified protein.
Unlike large CDMOs focused on GMP manufacturing and high-volume production, our organization is designed to respond quickly to the needs of academic laboratories, biotechnology companies, and preclinical R&D teams.
You can move your projects forward faster without waiting months to receive your recombinant protein.

FAQ
Do you have questions about our recombinant proteins? Here is what you need to know to get your project off to a good start.
A recombinant protein is a protein produced through genetic engineering. The gene encoding the protein of interest is inserted into an expression vector and then introduced into a host system, such as a bacterium, a eukaryotic cell, or a cell-free system.
This method enables reproducible and scalable recombinant protein production tailored to your needs, whether for research, diagnostics, or therapeutic applications.
We work with five expression systems in parallel:
- E. coli
- CHO cells
- HEK cells
- Yeast
- Wheat-germ cell-free systems
This unique multi-system approach allows us to test several hosts during the pilot phase and select the most suitable system for your recombinant protein based on yield, folding, native post-translational modifications, and other requirements.
- Feasibility assessment and pilot study: 2–3 weeks
- Purified small-scale batch of 1–50 mg: 4–6 weeks in total
- Large-scale production: 6–10 weeks, depending on the expression system
Most pilot projects deliver purified batches in under three weeks.
Yes. We are particularly experienced in recombinant protein production using E. coli, offering high yields of up to 500 mg/L or more, controlled costs, and very short lead times.
This system is ideal for simple proteins, enzymes, and intracellular domains. We also offer codon optimization and periplasmic production to improve protein solubility.
Depending on the protein of interest, we can guarantee purity levels of up to 95% through multistep purification, combining affinity chromatography, ion-exchange chromatography, and size-exclusion chromatography.
We can also provide tag removal, endotoxin control below 0.1 EU/µg, and endotoxin-free or High Quality grades.
Absolutely. We regularly produce therapeutic recombinant proteins and antigens for recombinant protein vaccines in R&D, enhanced-quality, and endotoxin-free grades.
Our mammalian expression systems (CHO and HEK) as well as our yeast systems are particularly well suited to preclinical and clinical applications.
We manage the entire recombinant protein cloning and expression process, including:
- Codon optimization for the selected expression system
- Gene synthesis or subcloning
- Addition of tags such as His, Fc, AviTag, or SUMO
- Vector construction
- Sequencing
You may also provide your own expression vector.
Our wheat-germ cell-free system is often the ideal solution for toxic or membrane proteins because it avoids cellular cytotoxicity.
We systematically test several expression systems in parallel to maximize your chances of success.
Simply send us:
- Your sequence or specifications
- The required tag
- The target quantity
- The intended application
We will provide a detailed, non-binding proposal outlining the recommended strategy, timeline, and budget within 48 hours.
CHO cells are often preferred for larger-scale production and therapeutic applications. HEK293 cells are ideal for rapid testing and provide glycosylation profiles that closely resemble those found in humans.
